Welcome to the playbyplay chronicle of the HandsOn StartupTour event in London.
Throughout tonight’s event we’ll keep you updated with the happenings, photos, tweets and everything else… play by play.
Tonight, 8 companies will pitch for a place at the European Finals in Paris on November 26th. The winner there wins an immersive session of networking in Silicon Valley with investors and seasoned entrepreneurs.
A huge congrats to the organisers and all the people who pitched passionately. We expect big things from all of you! And thanks to all the great people who turned up to watch, listen and be inspired.
Winners tonight: ProdPad and PowrOfYou
Google Launchpad is offering all 8 teams a fast-track into their programme.
After a sliiiight nudge from Rodrigo
And that’s all 8 startups. Now just getting general feedback from the judges.
* Worth noting that quotes are very very badly paraphrased. But hey, typing during these things is intense.
“Nobody has nailed hyper-location apps yet. But everyone before showed exact locations.“
After the teams pitch for 90s, they get grilled by the panel of judges
As to why they’re looking to raise, as oppose just using their profits to grow:
“You can’t grow really fast with just organic growth, we want to explode“
“Data is the new currency. Tap into the future with us.“
So many awesome people are here to hear the 90s pitches.
The judging panel getting comfy for the 8 30s pitches
“Number one thing is, think about simplicity and clarity. It’ll be hard if you can’t explain what you do.“
“Culture is one of those things where entrepreneurs usually roll their eyes, but it happens whether you care or not.“
“Strongest teams have a lot of grit and initiative, always trying to do more and more.“
Now up is a fire-side chat with Philip Wilkinson about entrepreneurship and investing.
Next year the StartupTour will expand to another 8 countries next year. Doubling from this year.
Rodrigo Barros is now welcoming everyone and giving a brief history about the event.
